A good plan to
spend a day for someone who is in Vigo is to
visit La Coruña. La
Coruña is a beautiful city in the northwest of Galicia. From Vigo you can go by train
or by bus. If you take a bus the journey is cheaper but, in my opinion, the
train is more comfortable. Anyway, either way, the journey’ll probably take
more or less two hours so you need to get up early.
Both stations
are close. In the morning, you can visit one of the many museums in the city.
Coruña has a lot of interesting museums. I’m going to talk about three of them
and you can choose one or maybe two. The first one, Domus, is an interactive
museum. You could see there the brains of different animals and explore a lot
of things about your own body. Another one is “Casa de los Peces”. It’s near
Domus and you could see a lot of species of fish. It costs €10. These two
museums are in the Paseo Marítimo
(the prom), there you can see a wonderful
view of the city. Another interesting museum is the “Casa de las Ciencias” (the House of Science), it costs 2 euros and
it is in a beautiful park called “Parque
de Santa Margarita”. There, they have a planetarium and in the same
building there is an area which offers explanations and demonstrations related
to physics.
If you arrive
at the train station you should cross one zebra crossing and then another one
on your left. Then, you should cross an overhead bridge to cross the road
“Alfonso Molina” on foot and on the other side of the road you have an
information point for tourists, so you can ask there for the buses that go to
the museums. If you arrive at the bus station you should go up the stairs and
the information point is after the car park.
At midday you
could take a bus to the city hall which is a very beautiful building and the
square too where the city hall is located. If you are in the square, called
María Pita, and you go to the street behind you in the right corner, you can
see the port. And if you ask someone they will direct you to a very typical
place where you can eat good food at a reason price. It’s called “La Bombilla”.
The best plan
for the afternoon is to visit the different monuments of the city. Maybe you
could take a bus to the city centre and go to ‘Monte San Pedro’.There you will see two enormous guns that were
important in the Second World War. Also you can see the beautiful views of
Coruña city. If you pay attention you will be able to make out a sillouette
which is the Tower of
Hercules which
overlooks the sea. This is your next destination.
One more time,
you have to take another bus. This tower is the world’s oldest lighthouse and has
survived many wars.
To finish, you
can go back to the city by walking along the beautiful ‘Paseo Marítimo’ and go to a famous bar near the train station named
‘La Estrella’.
There you can drink a typical and delicious Galician beer and practice your Spanish
or Galician with the locals.
At 9, your
train takes off and you will return to Vigo
with the satisfaction of knowing another interesting and lovely city called A
Coruña.
