O PORCO

O PORCO
If you live in Vigo, you must try the food of “Mesón del Jamón”, that is its real name but it’s known by “O Porco” because the pork there is great!

It’s a rustic restaurant of tapas where in my opinion you can eat the best pork with turnip leaves (“lacón con grelos”), which is a typical Galician food. If you like it, I encourage you to eat pig’s ear, it doesn't look great but its taste is awesome. Also, the chorizo and the other dishes are so good and the most incredible thing is that you can eat and drink a lot for only €10 per person, more or less.
This restaurant (tavern) is located in the old town, on Calle Real (Royal Street). I recommend that you go at night because afterwards, you can have a beer in some bars nearby.

Enjoy your meal and the party!!!!

Climbing in Vigo area

If you like climbing, there are some areas in Vigo and on the outskirts where you will enjoy fresh air and fantastic views.

In Galiñeiro, Budiño, Monteferro, Hío and Oia there are a lot of routes with different levels from fourth to eight degree of difficulty. The only problem about this activity is the question of getting to the mountains. However the city council organizes walks most weekends and sometimes a bus is provided. The rock is granite, which is an adherent material.

The view from these places is spectacular. Even if you don't climb, you can enjoy walking along the paths  around these places. Galiñeiro is the highest mountain in the Vigo area. It is inland like Budiño. Monteferro, Hío and Oia are on the coast with spectacular sea views.

You can get information and pictures about it in this link:

TRIP TO “LA GUARDIA”

TRIP TO “LA GUARDIA”
If you want to enjoy a day in a beautiful place in Galicia you have to visit La Guardia. La Guardia is in the south of Galicia, really near Portugal. There are over 10,000 inhabitants.
If you don´t have a car to get there, the best option is take a bus at Vigo bus station (Avenida de Madrid, 57). You can walk from Plaza España. It's quite near. There are a lot of buses during the day but if you want to enjoy the day, the best option is to take the 7:30 bus. The company of the buses is ATSA, you can see the bus in the picture.

This bus goes to La Guardia passing through Baiona. The views are amazing!
When you arrive in La Guardia (at 9 o´clock) you only have to ask someone where “Monte Santa Tecla” is; anyone can explain to you (La Guardia is small).
In this moment you have to start to walk because you have 2,8 kilometers to ascend to the mountain, more or less 40 minutes.  But it´s worth doing it because when you arrive at the peak you will see that view! The mouth of the “Río Miño” and Portugal.

And Celtic dwellings too!

After that, it’s time to eat and if you want to eat the best shellfish you have to go to the port. You should go back down the mountain and then ask someone again for directions to “El Puerto”.
When you arrive at the port I will give two options. Both of them are in the same pedestrian street!
-          If you have money for a seafood platter the best option is to go to “Maruxia” (Avenida Puerto, 29) you are going to spent more or less €30-40.
-          But if you don´t have a lot of money you can go to take “tapas” in “El Puerto Guardes” (Avenida del Puerto 1). Here, €7 is going to be enough and the food is amazing!
When you finish your meal, you can go for a walk by the port. You can see how beautiful the port and the houses are. Typical houses of a fishing town!

The day is over and you have to come back to Vigo. (Although you can enjoy a Saturday night out here, because there are a lot pubs to go out and the people are very friendly).
If you want to come back, you can take the bus in the same place at 5, 5:30, 6 or 7! Be careful because at 7  p.m. the last bus goes!!!

ENJOY YOUR DAY IN LA GUARDIA!!! J
