Baked Monkfish tails

Monkfish is an ugly fish, but it has a compact and white flesh that reminds to some shellfishes. It lives in the Atlantic Ocean, so it can be easily found in Galician markets and fish shops. A curious fact is that monkfish has a kind of fishing rod over its head. It uses this rod to attract other little fishes and catch them with its big mouth.

 What do you need?

  • One monkfish tail per person.
  • Chopped onion (2 onions for 4 tails).
  • White wine.
  • Olive oil.
  • Salt and pepper (pepper is optional)

What do you have to do?

First, you put the tails, which should be already cleaned, in an ovenproof dish. If there are too many tails, you can use the plate inside the oven itself. You sprinkle salt and pepper over them and pre-heat the oven until 180º.
Then, put a small amount of oil in a pan. When the oil is heat, you put the onion in it and sauté the onion. When the onion is done, add some white wine and let it cook for 2 minutes. Finally, you put the onion over the fish tails and bake them in the oven for 12 or 15 minutes. If the tails got dry, you could add some water.

Enjoy your meal!

This photo shows  Vigo’s estuary. This photograph was taken on a great sunny day in spring.
At the bottom in the right hand corner you can see a small beach which is seen only at low tide. Around the beach there are a lot stones, where fishermen try to catch fish.
At the top in the right hand corner, you can see the Rande Bridge which is really famous because it was the first bridge of this kind built in Spain.
This bridge links Vigo with Pontevedra via a motorway.
In the estuary you can find many mussel platforms because this estuary is a suitable place for the farming of mussels. In fact, these mussels are really famous in all Spain due to their delicious taste.
In the background you can see a small mountain,  that is Vigo.
In my opinion, this spot is very recommendable because you can relax and enjoy beautiful views.

You can stay all day, even camp there. It is important to remember that the transportation to this island does NOT work in winter. The boats usually start after Easter (April). You can buy your boat ticket in the low building opposite the tall and very u _ _ _ Hotel Bahia.
